Airdrieonians F.C.

Airdrieonians F.C., Airdrieonian Football Club or Airdrie is a Scottish professional football team in the town of Airdrie, North Lanarkshire. The club is a member of the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) and competes in the Scottish Championship, the second level of the Scottish football piramid.

Airdrieonians F.C. was founded in 2002 under the name Airdrie United Football Club, after the bankruptcy of the original Airdrieonians club, formed in 1878. The club’s name changed again in 2013, to the traditional name of Airdrieonians. Just like the original club, the team is often referred to as “Airdrie”.

Since the club’s inception in 2002 they have won three trophies. Airdrieonians F.C. won the Scottish Second Division in 2003–2004 and the Challenge Cup in 2008–2009 and 2023–2024.

In the 2023/2024 season the club finished 4th in the Scottish Championship. The club’s 4th place finish allowed it to compete in the Scottish Premiership play-off quarter final for promotion to the highest division in Scottish professional football. Over two games the club was defeated by Partick Thistle.
