Callum McGregor enjoys the ‘fight’ and ‘battle’ of Glasgow derby

With three games to go on this season’s Scottish Premiership calendar and Celtic leading Rangers by 3 points, the stakes are high for Saturday’s old firm derby. Today Celtic TV shared a clip of an interview with Celtic’s captain Callum McGregor, in which he was asked about his thoughts on the derby.

When asked if he enjoyed the Glasgow derby as a veteran Callum McGregor explained he loves them. “I love them. I think if you don’t enjoy them then you’re going to struggle to play at a big club like this.”

He elaborated how experience helps to enjoy the old firm. ”So, over the years, you build up more experience, and when the games come around then when you’re in the middle of it you have to enjoy it. You’ve got to enjoy the fight, and the battle of it and generally when you do that then you have positive experiences.”

The Celtic captain was also asked about his message for the other players before kick-off. ”I think we should stay calm and focus on doing our jobs. You know, sometimes you can become overemotional and you understand what the game means in the context of the season. But, you know, I think if we focus on performance and we focus on working as hard as we possibly can for each other, and the supporters, then, you know, straight away the energy level goes up.”

Celtic will have a home advantage, with Saturday’s final Glasgow derby of the season taking place at Celtic Park. Kick off will be at 12:30 PM.
