Celtic crowned champions after Kilmarnock win

Celtic has secured the top spot in the Scottish Premiership. After a decisive 0-5 win at Rugby Park against Kilmarnock the Glaswegians clinched the Scottish Premiership championship.

At Kilmarnock’s Rugby Park it became clear early on that it would be Celtic’s party. The Bhoys scored in the 5th minute via the foot of Adam Idah. The visitors went on to score a second in the 12th minute by Japanese international Daizen Maeda, followed by an additional goal by winger James Forrest. In the second half Celtic did not hold back, scoring an additional two goals via the team’s top scorer Matt O’Riley.

The Glaswegians have won the Scottish Premiership for the third time in a row, and the 12th time in the past 13 seasons. With one game left in the season 2nd placed Rangers are 6 points behind. It meant that, just as the last 3 seasons, it has been Celtic that grabbed the championship.

Aside winning the Scottish Premiership title, Celtic’s victory has also secured them a Champions League group stage spot for the 2024/2025 season. On Saturday 25 May Celtic has the chance to win the double, as it will face rivals Rangers in the Scottish Cup final.
