During the UEFA Champions League draw in Monaco this evening Celtic FC has been matched with Borussia Dortmund and Aston Villa. The Bhoys will also face Leipzig, Young Boys, GNK Dinamo, Club Brugge, Slavia Bratislava, and Atalanta.
For the new so called League Stage set up in the UEFA Champions League the Scottish champions will face eight opponents in total, of which four at home and four away. The home games at Celtic Park will be against Leipzig, Young Boys, Club Brugge and Slavia Bratislava, while the away games will be against Borussia Dortmund, GNK Dinamo, Atalanta and Aston Villa.
The new set up means that after eight matches, the top eight teams in the thirty-six teams League Stage will automatically qualify for the knock out stages. The teams nine to twenty-four will face a play-off round to move on, while the bottom twelve teams will be eliminated.
Matchday 1 in the UEFA Champions League League Stage will commence on 17-19 September. Celtic will be the only Scottish side represented in the top European competition this season, after Rangers lost their qualifier against Dynamo Kyiv.
