Celtic FC have won from Kilmarnock FC with 4-0 at Celtic Park today. It was the first Scottish Premiership game of the season for both teams.
In front of a sell out crowd it was one way traffic towards the Killie box right from the opening stages. Rio Hatate opened The Bhoys Premiership account in the 17th minute. The Japanese midfielder received the ball on the edge of the box and saw his shot drop into the lower left side of the net. Before half time Liam Scales doubled the scoreline for the home side to 2-0 after a corner. The defender lost his protector and headed the ball low past the goalkeeper.
After the break Nicolas Kühn got his name on the score sheet as well for the 3-0. Kyogo Furuhashi sent the winger deep and saw his shot on goal deflected, fly over the keeper and land into the net. Anthony Ralston scored the last goal of the afternoon in the fourth minute of extra time, netting a rebound from a tight angle and through the legs of the goalkeeper.
The win has earned Brendan Rodgers’ side their first three points of the season, jumping to the first spot on the table on match round one of the season. In front of the BBC Scotland camera the Celtic manager summed up to be ”very pleased” with the decisive result.
Goalless draws on opening day
Yesterday Rangers FC and Heart of Midlothian FC had the honors of showcasing the first Premiership match of the season. Even though the Glaswegians had more than 60 percent ball possession overall, they were unable to get the ball into the net, drawing Hearts 0-0. In Motherwell’s opening meeting with Ross County things remained goalless as well.
Earlier today in Dundee the Dundee derby between Dundee FC and Dundee United resulted in four goals, two goals for both sides. In Paisley St Mirren continued their UEFA Conference League qualification form and won 3-0 from Hibernian FC.
Tomorrow St Johnstone plays against Aberdeen FC for their first game of the 2024/2025 Premiership season.
