St Johnstone has announced today that Drey Wright has signed a new deal at the club. The right-back and winger has signed for one extra year.
The 29-year-old missed a large portion of last season with an injury to his knee, but played an important role in keeping the Perth side in the Premiership. St Johnstone managed to secure another season in the Premiership after beating Motherwell during a nail biting final match day.
Drey Wright’s new deal will mark his 5th year in Perth, with a two season spell at Hibernian during the 2020-2022 seasons in between.
The versatile Englishman shared on St Johnstone’s website to be looking forward to making up the time lost due to injury. āIām really happy to get things sorted here and I am looking forward to making up for some lost time.”
The former Hibs player also commented on his relief about the tail end of the season and to be looking forward to a strong pre-season. āI think I was improving with every game towards the end of the season and thankfully I was able to help get the job done.” ”Pre-season will be hard graft as ever but that is needed to give ourselves the best chance of success in the cup games and in the league.”
Last week the Saints shared having managed to extend the stay of midfielder Graham Carey as well. The 35-year-old Irishman has also agreed to stay with Craig Levein’s side for one extra season.
St Johnstone will start the new season on 13 July, when it will play in the Premier Sports Cup. In group F the Saints will face Brechin City, Morton, Alloa and East Fife. The Scottish Premiership 2024/2025 season will commence the following month, in the weekend of 3 August.
