Falkirk off to a flying start by winning Championship opener

Falkirk FC and Queen’s Park FC had the honors of opening the 2024/2025 Scottish Championship season this evening. In front of the home crowd Falkirk managed to mark their long awaited return to the second division with a 2-1 win.

Calvin Miller scored the first of the season for Falkirk in the 33th minute. The 26-year-old winger kept cool after a rebound and shoved the ball into the net from a tight angle. The home side took their lead into the second half.

Seconds after the restart Queen’s Park managed to equalize via Dom Thomas. The Spiders winger spectacularly curled the ball into the top left corner from outside the box.

Falkirk pushed for a response. Less than 3 minutes after the equalizer the fans at Falkirk Stadium could celebrate again, as defender Sean Mackie found himself at the end of a deep cross into the box and managed to smash the ball past Calum Ferrie from close range. The 2-1 scoreline remained on the scoreboard until the final whistle.

The win means The Bairns are off to a flying start after their promotion to the Championship, grabbing their first three points of the season and their first Championship win since 2019. The victory will likely give the League One champions from last season a boost for their trip to Dunfermline Athletic next week.

  1. That goal from Dom Thomas was world class! Perhaps early goal of the season, or at least top 10.
