Saturday’s 0-1 win against St Mirren has secured Kilmarnock the 4th place in the Scottish Premiership. The spot has provided the Ayrshire side with at least two European matches next season.
Kyle Vassel’s 37th minute goal did not just turn out to be the winner for Kilmarnock F.C., it also became a season defining one. The away win at St Mirren gave them a 9 point lead over the Paisley side, officially securing Killie Europa League qualification.
The last time Kilmarnock saw European football at Rugby Park was in 2019, when they played in the first Europa League qualifying round against Connah’s Quay Nomads. Over two meetings the Welsh side managed to move on with a 2-3 aggregate in hand, which included a disappointing 0-2 defeat at home for Killie.
In the 2024/2025 season the Europa League qualifying phase and play-off round is set to begin on 11 July. The new European season will see a significant change to the competition’s format, which will turn into a single 36-team League stage. Each team will face eight different opponents, of which four matches at home, and four away. The first eight clubs advance directly to the round of 16.
