Lawrence Shankland grabs Scottish Premiership top scorer title

Heart of Midlothian striker Lawrence Shankland scored his 24th league goal and 32th of the season for club and country. The goals did not only assist Heart of Midlothian achieve a 3rd spot finish and Europa League football, but also made the attacker the Scottish Premiership top scorer for the 2023/2024 season.

Lawrence Shankland left runners up Matt O’Riley and James Tavernier well behind in the scoring charts. The Celtic midfielder and the Rangers defender achieved a respective tally of 19 and 17 goals for the league’s season. Even though most goals came from the 28 year old Jambos striker this season, it was Celtic FC that added another league trophy to their prize closet.

The Scottish Premiership 2023/2024 season officially ended today, but its top scorer may still add more goals to his season. Shankland is expected to take part in UEFA Euro 2024 for the Scottish National Team next month. The Scottish national team is not yet officially announced, but the Scottish Premiership top scorer’s name is all but guaranteed on Steve Clark’s list for Germany. The Scottish FA announced on Twitter it will share the squad list for UEFA Euro 2024 on 22 May.

So far Lawrence Shankland is on his 2nd best goal scoring season to date. The Glasgow born attacker only scored more goals during his spell at Ayr United during the 2018/2019 season. However, the striker scored 24 of his 34 goals that season whilst playing in the Scottish Championship, the 2nd tier of Scottish club football.

Lawrence Shankland helped his team to a 3-3 draw against Rangers during yesterday’s last league match of the reason. The striker scored the 1-0 opening goal for Hearts at Tynecastle Park. The next match on the calendar for Scotland’s current top goalscorer may be in less than three weeks. The Tartan Army take on Gibraltar on 3 June and Finland on 7 June, before heading to Germany for UEFA Euro 2024.
