Ross County has secured Premiership football for another season. The Staggies beat Raith Rovers 4-0 in Dingwall today, winning the play-final with a comfortable 6-1 on aggregate.
County’s 2-1 win at Stark’s Park gave Raith Rovers some hope for a good outcome. Early on Raith Rovers took the initiative to make something happen, but it was County that brought an end to the dreams of the Kirkcaldy fans in the second quarter.
County’s top scorer Simon Murray secured a goal in the 19th minute. After the break County landed another hammer blow by scoring a second of the afternoon via Jordan White.
A second for Murray followed in the 75th minute. Brendan Khela settled matters for County in the 86th minute, bringing the scoreline to 4-0.
The Staggies have secured Scottish Premiership football for the second time in a row through the play-off final. Last season the highlanders also proved too strong for Championship side Partick Thistle.
For the fans of Raith Rovers pride may follow the disappointment of the defeat. The club ended second in the Championship and gave itself the biggest chance at top tier Scottish football in 27 years. Both teams will restart in the same division as last season in the weekend of 2/3/4 August.
