Aberdeen F.C. or Aberdeen Football Club is a Scottish professional football club based in the city of Aberdeen. The club plays in the Scottish Premiership, the highest level of the Scottish football piramid. Ever since the club reached the top division in 1905 they have remained in the highest division of Scottish football.
In the 20th and 21st century Aberdeen F.C. have won four Scottish league titles, seven Scottish Cups and six Scottish League Cups, one European Cup Winners’ Cup and the European Super Cup.
The club was originally formed in 1903, after three local football clubs from Aberdeen merged together. The team rarely came close to a prize before the Second World War. But that changed in the 1950s when they won each of the major Scottish trophies under the management of Dave Halliday.
Under the management of Alex Ferguson in the 1980s the club’s success grew significantly, winning three league titles, four Scottish Cups and a Scottish League Cup, together with two European trophies. The team has enjoyed less success since the Alex Ferguson era. However, the club’s 19-year trophy drought ended by winning the 2013–2014 Scottish League Cup.
Aberdeen F.C. plays their home games at Pittodrie Stadium since its foundation. The 22,199 capacity stadium was the first to to be all-seated and all-covered in the United Kingdom. Pittodrie was also the first football stadium to come with a dug-out.
The club’s colours are red and white since 1939. In recent decades, Aberdeen have almost exclusively played with all-red strips with white details.
