The Celtic F.C. or Celtic Football Club, also commonly referred to as Celtic, is a Scottish professional football club based in the Scottish city of Glasgow. The team competes in the Scottish Premiership, the highest division in Scottish men football.
The club was originally founded in 1887, with the purpose of reducing poverty in the Irish–Scottish population in Glasgow’s East End region.
Celtic F.C. became a household name in Scottish football in the first decade of the 20th centuary, when they won six successive league titles. The club’s biggest achievements were during the 1960s and 1970s under manager Jock Stein. Under the Scottish manager they managed to win the European Cup of 1967 and nine consecutive league titles.
Celtic have played in green and white colors throughout their history, in reference to their Irish-Celtic roots. Since 1903 the club’s shirt has featured a signature hoops pattern.
Celtic are one of only handful of professional football clubs to win over 100 trophies. The club’s trophies include 54 the Scottish league championship, including the 2023–2024 season, 42 Scottish Cups and 21 Scottish League Cups.
Celtic has a fierce rivalry with fellow Glasgow side Rangers. The derby game between the two rivals has become known as the ”Old Firm”.
