Greenock Morton F.C.

Greenock Morton Football Club, also referred to as ‘The Pride Of The Clyde’, is a Scottish professional football club located in the town of Greenock, Inverclyde. The club currently plays their games in the Scottish Championship, the second tier of the Scottish professional football piramid.

The club’s foundation dates back to 1874, this makes it one of the oldest football clubs in Scotland. The club was originally called Morton Football Club, but got renamed Greenock Morton in 1994 to signify the club’s links with the home town of Greenock.

The club has celebrated a number of successes throughout its existence. Greenock Morton FC won the Scottish Cup in 1922. While in 1916-1917 the club became runners-up in the Scottish League, behind champions Celtic, marking their highest league finish to date.

Greenock Morton FC holds the record for the club with the most relegations from and promotions to he top flight (10 promotions and 10 relegations). The last time the club competed in the highest divison of Scottish football was in 1988. Greenock Morton FC’s last and tenth prize dates back to 2015, when they won the Scottish League One championship.
