Heart of Midlothian

Heart of Midlothian Football Club, commonly Hearts, is a professional Scottish football club from Edinburgh, Lothian. The team competes in the Scottish Premiership, the highest tier in Scottish football.

Heart of Midlothian FC was originally founded in 1874 and plays their home games at Tynecastle Park since 1886. The club’s name originates from Walter Scott’s novel The Heart of Midlothian, with the club’s logo based on Edinburgh’s Heart of Midlothian mosaic on the Royal Mile.

Hearts have won a number of prizes throughout their more than 150 year history. The club have won the Scottish league four times and the Scottish Cup eight times. The club’s most recent prize dates back to 2012, when they won the Scottish Cup after a 5–1 victory over local rivals Hibernian. The club’s meetings with Hibernian are also commonly known as the Edinburgh derby. In 2019, 2020 and 2022 Hearts were beaten finalists in the Scottish Cup final.

Heart of Midlothian have not won any European competitions, but club reached the UEFA Cup quarter-final in the 1988–1989 season, losing to Bayern Munich by 2–1 on aggregate.
