Hibernian Football Club or Hibernian FC, commonly Hibs or Hibees, is a professional football club based in Edinburgh, Scotland. The team competes in the Scottish Premiership, the highest level of Scottish club football.
The club was originally founded in the year 1875 by members of the Irish community in Edinbutgh. The name Hibernian is derived from the Latin word for Ireland. The Irish heritage of of the club is also represented in the club green and white colours and badge.
The local rivals of Hibernian FC are Heart of Midlothian. Games between the two Edinburgh sides are commonly known as the the Edinburgh derby.
Hibs plays their home games at Easter Road. The stadium ground has been in used since 1893, the same year the club started competing in the Scottish Football League.
In terms of prizes, Hibernian FC have won the Scottish League four times, won the Scottish Cup three times and the Scottish League Cup three times. The most recent Hibs Leage championship dates back to 1952, while the club their most recent prize dates back to 2016 when they won the Scottish Cup for the last time. Notably, Hibernian FC reached the semi-final of the first ever European Cup in 1955–56, becoming the first British club to take part in the European competition.
