Highland Football League

The Highland Football League, Scottish Highland Football League (SHFL), or commonly Highland League is a football league located in the north of Scotland. The league sits at the fifth tier of the Scottish football pyramid and directly feeds into the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL).

The league was originally founded in 1893 and currently encompasses eighteen member clubs inside a single division. The current member clubs include: Banks O’ Dee, Brechin City, Brora Rangers, Buckie Thistle, Clachnacuddin, Deveronvale, Formartine United, Forres Mechanics, Fraserburgh, Huntly, Inverurie Loco Works, Keith, Lossiemouth, Nairn County, Rothes, Strathspey Thistle, Turriff United, Wick Academy.

The league covers the Scottish Highlands region as well as parts of Moray, Aberdeenshire, Perthshire, Angus and the cities of Aberdeen and Dundee.

Since the 2014–2015 season the Highland Football League is part of the Scottish football pyramid system. This means the winners of the competition take part in an end-of-season promotion play-off with the Lowland Football League champions. The winners then face the bottom team of the Scottish League Two for a spot in the SPFL. Promotion and relegation also takes place between the three lower Highlands-based regional leagues at level six of the Scottish football pyramid (Midlands League, North Caledonian League, and North Region Junior Football League).
