Junior Cup

The Junior Cup, Scottish Junior Cup or Clydebuilt Home Improvements Scottish Junior Cup for sponsorship reasons, is a football competition organised by the Scottish Junior Football Association. The competition is held annually and consists out of 112 teams. The competition is open to all member clubs of the Scottish Junior Football Association, and all clubs in tier 6 and below in the Scottish football pyramid on payment of entry fee. All teams have to be approved by the tournament’s committee.

The annual tournament has been held since the inception of the SJFA on the 2nd October 1886. The Junior Cup format consists out of an unseeded knockout phase without replays. The semi-finals are played over two legs. The final is usually played at a SPFL club venue. Ties at the 90 minute whiste proceed directly to penalty kicks.

Since 2006 the the Junior Cup winners qualify for the following season’s senior Scottish Cup.

Auchinleck Talbot is the club that has won the Junior Cup most, winning the trophy fourteen times so far. Darvel are the 2024 cup holders, after defeating Arthurlie 2–1 during the final on 2 June 2024.
