Rangers FC won 2-1 against Motherwell FC today. The Gers played their first home game of the Premiership season at Hampden Park due to ongoing works at Ibrox.
The home side started the game on the front foot. Cyriel Dessers flicked the ball into the net from close range in the 13th minute.
Motherwell didn’t allow the home side a walk over and caused danger on the counter. In the 17th minute an early cross into the box couldn’t be dealt with by the Rangers defence. John Souttar headed the ball towards Robin Pröpper. The defender didn’t have an answer for the unexpected deflection and shoved the ball in his own goal.
Several minutes later another Rangers summer signing played a crucial role, and this time on the right side of the pitch. In the 24th minute winger Václav Černý received the ball in the right hand side of the field and managed to drag the ball to the edge of the Motherwell box. The winger’s quality dribble got followed by an even better strike that curled over the keeper’s fingertips and into the net for the 2-1.
Even though Motherwell created numerous chances for the equalizer, Rangers’ Jack Butland didn’t get beaten again. The game ended in 2-1.
The result will boost the confidence of Philippe Clement’s men, ahead of their crucial second leg against Dynamo Kyiv for their Champions League qualifier on Tuesday.
A Dundee win and a Dundee draw
Dundee United their trip north to Ross County started well, after getting ahead 0-1 via Daniel Babunski. But to the joy of the home crowd in Dingwall they saw Ronan Hale score the equalizer in the 5th minute of extra time. The game ended 1-1.
Dundee FC their home game at Dens Park against Heart of Midlothian ended 3-1. Their win takes The Dark Blues top of the table for at least today.
Tomorrow there are three more games in the Scottish Premiership. Aberdeen plays against St Mirren at home, Kilmarnock receives St Johnstone and Hibernian will face Celtic.
